The Story of Gloria Steinem - "Women Who Shatter Barriers"

Social activist, writer, editor, and lecturer Gloria Steinem has been an outspoken champion of women's rights since the late 1960s.

Gloria Steinem is a writer, speaker, activist and feminist organizer. She co-founded New York Magazine and Ms. Magazine, where she remains a consulting editor.

In 2013, President Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor.

Steinem has been the subject of three television documentaries, including HBO’s Gloria: In Her Own Words, and she is among the subjects of the 2013 PBS documentary MAKERS, a continuing project to record the women who made America. She was the subject of The Education of a Woman, a biography written by Carolyn Heilbrun.

When Steinem turned 75 in 2009, the Ms. Foundation suggested ways for others to celebrate Steinem's birthday. It called on women to engage in outrageous acts for simple justice. Around this time, Steinem discussed some of the pressing issues of the day.

"We've demonstrated that women can do what men do, but not yet that men can do what women do. That's why most women have two jobs—one inside the home and one outside it—which is impossible. The truth is that women can't be equal outside the home until men are equal in it," Steinem told the New York Daily News.

Steinem continues to work for social justice. As she recently said, "The idea of retiring is as foreign to me as the idea of hunting."

I create the background images of the portraits digitally with photoshop. I then print, adhere, and prime the background on a 8x10 inch canvas panel. I paint the subject of the portrait with oil paint over the primed background. I frame the painting when the painting is completely dried and cured.

I use the highest quality artist oil paint. The original painting arrives at your home framed and ready to hang.

I take every step to ensure the image is as accurate as possible to the original painting. However variations in color may occur due to monitor differences.

In addition to the original painting, you can order canvas & paper prints in various sizes. Click the “Select Options" drop down menu for sizes and price.
