Girl with Pink Umbrella!
I have wanted to make this painting for a few years! The subject of the painting is the daughter of family friends that are French! And, yes, they live in France.
I love this painting! A young girl walking on a hot sunny day, shielding herself from the sun.
The contrasting colors of the ancient wall and the poetically pink umbrella, to me, represent the contrast of youth striding through a timeworn world that adults have created.

“Shades of Grey.”
This painting of Jonathan Williamson is study of color values in black and white! I love this painting. The challenge of creating contrast and not mud is never easy. I love the drama of this painting and hope you do to! I do not use black paint out of tube. The “blacks” in this painting are created with French Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber.
You can watch the following short video (2 minutes, 20 seconds) on how I made this painting!

“The Pandemic Hair Stylist”
Yes, this the reality of life during the times of Covid19. This young boy is enjoying “playing” hairstylist for his mom! Many of us miss our favorite hairstylists. We can do our best to support our local hair salons by purchasing gift cards or even sending a friendly note!
I hope you enjoy this painting!
