“Elephant Love”

I have wanted to paint an elephant for a while! So I painted two! Elephants are magnificent animals. Strong. Smart. Social. Elephants look prehistoric to me. Perhaps that is why folks love elephants. And, all those wrinkles! Folks think of elephants as the color gray, but they are so much more! They take on different colors because they are always spraying themselves with the surface under their feet! So, they tend to get covered with whatever is on the ground beneath them! The painting I am presenting to you, the elephants have the riverbed mud all over them, so - yes, they are covered with the river mud! I also love the way the elephants are snuggling in this painting.

If you haven’t read “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen or “Leaving Time” by Jodi Picoult. I highly recommend! Both books depict the elephants lives and how humans affect them.

My reference photo for this painting is from Unsplash by Craig Pretorius.

As always, I hope my paintings communicate the most important art of all — the art of being human and appreciating all the creatures on our earth.

Please enjoy this painting as much as I enjoy creating it. Let me know your thoughts!
