My Inspiration…
The past few days, I have been packaging paintings for shipping off to their new owners!
(Yay, it always feels good when folks love my art enough to purchase for their own space or someone they love.)
I have a table in my studio where I do my framing and packaging. Next to the table is a bust of Michaelangelo's David. The bust lived for years in my mother-in-law’s home.
Madelyn (Bruce's mom) died a few years ago, in the process of cleaning out her home, Bruce decided to keep this bust of "David," because he said it reminds him of his mom!
I’m not sure why she chose this bust for her living room. I don’t believe she ever visited Florence. But, to me, her choice of art is pretty cool!
I have been fortunate to have visited “David” at the Galleria dell'Accademia di Firenze (Gallery of the Academy in Florence, Italy) many times, a few times as an art student, studying in Italy, and a few times as a visitor to Italy. Let me tell you, “David” leaves quite an impression At over 17 feet tall, and sculpted in breathtaking marble, it is mesmerizing.
Alert! If you visit Florence (after covid leaves the planet.) You must go INSIDE the museum to see the original David! There is an impressive “David “outside the museum, but it is a copy of the “David” inside the museum.
Getting back to the packaging of my paintings...I felt the whole time like "David" was watching me package the paintings. Packaging a painting is a meticulous process, with lots of steps and measuring, etc. Not to mention it is very stressful, cuz I want to make sure I do everything correctly!
So, as I'm packaging, and "David" is watching me, I was thinking about how I need to make a charcoal drawing of Michaelangelo's' "David." Throughout history, art students practice drawing by drawing artwork created by the great masters.
So here you have it, my version of Michaelangelo's "David."
Hope you like it!
As always, I had to make it. I had to share it. Please enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it.
Let me know your thoughts!
I take every step to ensure this online image is as accurate as possible to the original drawing. However, variations in color may occur due to monitor differences.
