“Amtrak Joe - Portrait of Joe Biden”

It’s taken me a while, but I finally decided to do Joe’s portrait!

“Amtrak Joe.”

Vice President Biden acquired the nickname “Amtrak Joe” when elected as Senator from Delaware in 1972.

Biden lost his wife and daughter to a tragic car accident in 1972. He was sworn into the Senate at his sons' bedsides—they had been critically injured in the crash but subsequently recovered.

Vice President Biden began taking Amtrak to and from Washington, D.C. every single day (the trip's about 90 minutes), so he could be at home with his boys. He did this throughout his career and said it helped him feel closer to his children.

Biden rode the Amtrak every day for 36 years.

Biden's apparently traveled over 2 million miles, the equivalent of four years of his life, on Amtrak. He's a huge advocate for rail travel, facilitating over a $2 billion loan in 2016 to help them update trains and stations.

I use the title “Amtrak Joe” to amplify the vast differences in our 2020 choice for President of the United States

The American people have a choice in 2020 - Decency or Despicable.

As always, I hope my paintings communicate the most important art of all — the art of being human.

Please enjoy this painting as much as I enjoy creating it. Let me know your thoughts!
