The Story of "Women Who Shatter Barriers"

I continue my “Women Who Shatter Barriers” seres as a tribute to women I admire for their courage, contribution, brilliance, and heart.

Greta Thunberg has been on my list of “to do” portraits since she delivered her bold and heartfelt “How Dare You” speech to all the world leaders at the United Nations in 2019.

Fact: Greta Thunberg was born on January 3, 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden. At the time of me painting her, she is 17 years old!

"Greta has addressed heads of state at the U.N., met with the Pope, sparred with the President of the United States and inspired 4 million people to join the global climate strike on September 20, 2019, in what was the largest climate demonstration in human history." From Time Magazine Person of the Year

Greta's courage and grit have brought her to the world’s attention. It's hard to imagine, a teenager has opened the world's eyes to the uncomfortable subject of climate change when scientists and activists around the world have been struggling for years to get the world to take them seriously.

So many young moms and daughters have requested I add her portrait to my "Women Who Shatter Barriers" series. So, here she is! I hope you like this portrait of a truly courageous and bold young woman, with foresight beyond her years.

I use the highest quality artist oil paint.

I create the background images of the portraits digitally with photoshop. I then print, adhere, and prime the background on an 8x10 inch canvas panel. I paint the subject of the portrait with oil paint over the primed background. 

I take every step to ensure the image is as accurate as possible to the original painting. However variations in color may occur due to monitor differences.
