The Unintentional Skull Painting
I never intended to paint this skull last night. I was planning to paint a pretty autumnal maple leaf with beautiful reds, yellows, and glowing orange colors!
New Paint!
This week I purchased a sparkling new set of lovely Caran D'Ache Gouache Paints.
I had never painted with gouache! (Gouache paint is similar to watercolor, except the paints are opaque.) Ok. maybe in college, but it was probably for some long-forgotten unmemorable assignment.
Anyway, I see online, one artist after another painting lovely autumn scenes with gouache paint. So, I thought to begin my gouache journey with one single maple leaf.
Not.
Somewhere along the way, I stumbled upon a reference photo of a skull I had saved. Lightbulb! I would way rather experiment with my newly acquired set of gouache using the skull as my subject.
The Skull Painting.
Here you have it. My first foray into the world of gouache paint. It's pretty easy to use. More like a hybrid of watercolor and acrylic paints. The colors were easy to accomplish and clean up was easy!
I tend to paint well into the morning hours. So this morning when I showed my husband the painting, he jumped back! Ha, I think that is a good thing.
Reaction to art is ALWAYS better than no reaction!

As always, I had to make it. I had to share it. Please enjoy it as much as I enjoy creating it.
