The Story of the Blue-eyed Boy

Reading Terminal Market in Center City Philadelphia is one of the oldest and largest indoor farmer's food markets in the nation. A nationally know foodie paradise, it is home to a wide variety of fresh produce, seafood, poultry, fresh meats, home-baked pastries, Amish specialties, local Pennsylvania Dutch delicacies, and uniquely Philly hoagie and cheesesteak vendors. The blue-eyed boy in this painting is a young and knowledgable member of his family's Pennsylvania Dutch food stand's team. I loved the way he is engulfed by the colorful rainbow of glass jars, packages of popping corn, soup mixes, and all kinds of dried delicacies. The impactful blue of his shirt is matched only by the intensity of his blue eyes. I was taken not only by the cornucopia of colors represented in the painting, but how the boy and his family's food stand exemplifies the down-to-earth atmosphere of the entire market.
